How does it work?

  • Enter the Competition

    Participate in the NaBuP Bursary Competition by sending an SMS with your full name, ID number, or date of birth to the shortcode 49492.You can enter on behalf of someone else by entering their details as stipulated above

  • Increase Your Chances

    The more SMS entries you send, the higher your chances of winning. Each SMS costs R1.50. 1 SMS = 1 Entry. NO FREE SMS ALLOWED. There is no limit to the number of entries.

  • Selection Process

    Winners are chosen annually during the Bursary Beneficiaries Selection Process in December. Successful entrants will be notified and their names published on the NaBuP website.

  • Claim Your Bursary

    Winnings are used to cover educational expenses, including tuition, books, and accommodation. Payments are made directly to institutions or service providers. No cash payouts are allowed.

  • Pursue Your Education

    Use your bursary to access tertiary education, improve your skills, and build a brighter future. NaBuP supports your journey with integrity and transparency.

The NaBuP Bursary Competition is an annual competition that allows participants to win bursaries by sending SMS entries. The competition is open to South African citizens who are pursuing or intend to pursue education in a legally recognized institution within South Africa.

To enter, send an SMS with your full name, ID number, or date of birth to 49492. Each SMS costs R1.50. There is no limit to the number of SMS entries you can send, and you can also enter on behalf of someone else by using their details.

The competition is open to South African citizens by birth or naturalization. Winners can be active students (currently in primary, secondary, or tertiary education), inactive students (dropouts intending to return to education), or even individuals holding a matric certificate.

Yes, winners who are not ready to use their bursary immediately are considered Inactive Beneficiaries. Their winnings will be held in a trust account until they are ready to pursue their studies.
